In Luke 12:13-15, Jesus is accosted by a man who demands that Jesus tell His brother to divide the inheritance with him. Though up front it seems like a reasonable request, Jesus refuses to be dragged into this family conflict as with judge or arbitrator. Why? Because Jesus cannot be used as our agent to bring about our desired agenda. There are two vital truths to understand in prayer. The first: life is not always fair. We are not entitled, because we are God’s children, for life to work out the way we think it should. The second: it is not God’s job to make it fair for me. We must remember always that He is not an agent of my entitlement; He is the Lord to be enthroned in my life. It is when my desperation moves me to complete submission to His will that I began to experience the amazing provision of God.

Question:

Are you willing to move your area of desperation into the realm of submission to the Lord?

Submit yourselves to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God,

and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands…and purify your hearts…

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.
