In Luke 14, Jesus tells a parable about a banquet that was given and how those who were invited started sending back messages given reasons why they should be excused from having to attend. On the surface, each excuse seems to have some legitimacy to them, but when really investigated, they prove to be nothing more than just excuses.
When you think about it, we do the same thing, don’t we? We all have this amazing invitation to be a part of the ever-expanding, ever-glorious work of God. Yet, we are so ready to give our excuses why we can’t get involved right now. Maybe some time in the future when we aren’t so busy. But that time never seems to come, does it? And the hard truth is that the invitation, once rejected or put off until “another time,” may never come again.
The Lord is seeking those who will follow after Him with all their heart, with all their soul, with all their mind, and with all their strength. This will require we do as exactly as Isaiah 55:6 says: Seek the Lord while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near. The invitation is yours to accept or reject. Choose wisely.
Prayer Emphasis: Pray that you will have a heart of true sensitivity to the moving of the Holy Spirit. Pray that when He calls you will hear and that you will be ready, willing and able to follow after Him.
… The hour has come for you to wake from sleep.
For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed.
The night is far gone; the day is at hand.
So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light.
